Home Tab: Clipboard, Font


The Home Tab contains the most frequently used commands in Word.  To get to another tab on the Ribbon click that particular tab

If you do not see a command(s) that you’re looking for click the arrow beside each group name that looks like this  to open a dialog box with more commands.

Clipboard

You can quickly display the Clipboard task paneL by clicking on the dialog launcher in the bottom right corner of this group.

  • Paste (Ctrl + V): Paste is used to page the current cut/copy selection to put here.The drop-down contains the commands: Paste, Paste Special and Paste as Hyperlink.
  • Cut - (Ctrl + X). Cuts the current selection to the clipboard.
  • Copy - (Ctrl + C). Copies the current selection to the clipboard.
  • Format Painter - (Ctrl + Shift + C). Copies the formatting from one place in a document and lets you apply it somewhere else. This works across multiple documents.

Font

The font group has to do with how characters look.

  • Fonts: Click to drop down the list, then click on the selected font and begin typing the desired font's name. To use the specified font, press Enter.
  • Size: In Points, choose or enter the text size.
  • Bold: Click to make the text bold or to make it non-bold.
  • Italic: Click to make the text italic, or click again to make it non-italic.
  • Underline: Click to highlight the selected text in the desired manner. To change the style, click the arrow to bring up a selection of underlining styles, then choose one. Click the button again to remove the underline.
  • Strike-Through: Click to delete the chosen text. To remove the strike-through, click once more.
  • Superscript: To make the text superscript, click it. Click once more to remove the superscript.
  • Subscript: To make the text subscript, Click once more to remove the subscript.
  • Font Color: Click to change the colour of the chosen text (displayed on the button).Drop down the color pallet with theme colors and standard colors by clicking the arrow.  Choose a color or click More Colors to bring up the Colors dialogue box, which includes complex palettes and a color picker.
